music of the night

Guess what? We went to Phantom!!! We saw it at the Milwaukee Marcus Center and it was AHmazing! The costumes were to die for and the sets were gorgeous! We had wonderful seats...orchestra - 8th row right in the middle! I actually cried at the beginning when the sheets are cast off the chandelier and it's drawn up to the ceiling in a rush of the theme music.

Here is what I wore...this lovely little flapper-esque number is from H&M. The original price was $40, but I got it for a mere $10!!! I'm glad I ended up buying a medium instead of a small because it keeps that flat silhouette that the real flappers were famous for. I paired it with fishnets, vintage gloves, a vintage clutch, thrifted shoes, and a handmade choker. My boyfriend brought me a lovely corsage which I wore as well. I decided to keep in the flapper tradition and go for dreadfully dark makeup, which tops the look off perfectly.

a very short skirt

Sorry...more disappointment. Not only did my boyfriend and I not go out to a fancy dinner, we did not attend The Phantom of the Opera at the Marcus Center in Milwaukee. Yes, my poor boyfriend threw his back out putting one of his cars back together and is now practically bedridden. Oh well...I'm young...I still have time to see amazing musicals.

This is what I wore to work at the bookstore today. This is a ridiculously short skirt (well, for me, at least) and was probably not the perfect choice for work. Woops. At least it's cute. I am also wearing my beautiful flats (Sigerson Morrison for Target) that massacre my poor feet every time I wear them. You'd think one would learn and carry band-aids in her purse...

strawberry shortcake

I've been having a ton of fun with my boyfriend this past week! Today we washed his Mustang (water fight!) and saw Inglourious Basterds. We might make a strawberry shortcake later - my first attempt at real baking (ahhhh!!). We also went to the library to take pictures, but alas, they all turned out like poo (the lighting was really bad). So...this is the outfit I wore today.

I am wearing this skirt inside out as a last minute attempt to find something to go with this vintage blouse. I think it looks cool, especially being able to faintly see the black and white print on the bottom.

Exciting news...tomorrow my boyfriend is taking me to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Marcus Center in Milwaukee! I am tres tres excited and cannot wait. I've never seen this story on stage before, but I love the music (and the movie)! Love love love to everyone!

shimmery

So...little change of plans...we did not go out to a fancy dinner - we decided not to. Instead, we went to Old Country Buffet! Woot! For those of you who don't know, Old Country Buffet is a restaurant filled with buffets with every different kind of food you could ever imagine. I've never been there before, but it was quite an experience.

This shirt is fantastic...it's sheer and shimmery - so beautiful. I got it a thrift store for around $3.99, but the original price sticker was still on it - $39.50! Heehee. I did, however find it hard when considering what to wear underneath...I decided on a beautiful and delicate blue and white bra that looked fantastic.

indecisive

Today the weather couldn't figure out what it wanted to do. At first it was warm and sunny, then chilly...then warm...then chilly! So, after I got home from work I traded my sneakers for my heels (Steve Madden...my only pair of designer shoes...thank you Boyfriend!!!) and added socks.

I'm so excited...tomorrow my boyfriend's taking me out to dinner at a fancy restaurant! We haven't had a "fancy restaurant" date in a very long time! I'm stoked...I can't wait to show you pictures of my dress...

time traveling

I went with my adorable boyfriend (who's leaving for college in NY in less than a week) to see The Time Traveler's Wife. It was fun and extremely amusing when my bf managed to spill soda all over himself. Mehhehheh.

Anyways, the weather is rainy, but never fear...I have my trusty wellies.

here she comes again

This is what I wore to run errands with my madre on this lovely almost-the-end-of-summery day. I really love the poofy sleeves of the dress (and I looooove how big structured shoulders are coming back into style!) The tank is actually part of vintage pajama set that I picked up at a thrift store a while ago.

I did some experimenting with lipstick, and even though you can't tell in the pictures, my bottom lip is an orange color (Revlon "Kiss Me Coral") and my upper lip is red (L'Oreal British Red). Next time I will try with colors that don't end up looking so similar, but I really like the effect! It is hard, however, to keep from smudging your lips together.

This is what I wore to my interview for Target...and guess what? I got offered a job! Double woot and terrificisiums! So...now I have three jobs: Target, St. Vinnies (the thrift store), and Hidden Staircase (the bookstore). I'll probably mainly be working at Target since they can offer me more hours, but that is not at all bad.

do ya do ya want my love (i'm saying)

We went to my dad's bookstore today (love love love books more than anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but it was a bit sad as I have no money (long story...I've practically been blacklisted by my boss so now I have nooooooooo hours...equals no money for Indy...equals no book - or clothes - shopping for a looong time). But, my mummy (sweet mummy) bought me And Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers by Louise Rennison (the 6th book in the Georgia Nicholson series...mmm...hahahahah) and also Confessions of a Shopaholic (since I can't be a shopaholic at least I can read about other ones). Yay! Next, though, I think I'll read The Scarlet Pimpernel again...and then maybe Dracula as I have just finished Twilight and am hungry (or maybe thirsty?) for more vampires. And then perhaps The Count of Monte Cristo...oh soooooooooo many books and soooo little time. Quel dommage!

Anyways...this is what I wore...I really dig this top with the dreamcatcher and the big pocketbook! Groovitude.

Good news...tomorrow I have an interview at Target! I need to get hours somewhere, and this would be a good place...do I hear employee discount?!? If I can't buy clothes or books, I at least need to be able to pay for school...which is why I need a steady job ASAP! But more importantly...what should I wear?! Ahh...so nervous. But happy-go-lucky, too...as that is much more fun. Hugs and kisses and all that good stuff.

Ooo...fun, no? I'm just trying to get my breadth requirements out of the way before I take my electives, but this semester shouldn't be that bad...I guess we'll find out, eh? The only bit lacking in the fabulosity department is that I couldn't get the schedule to work out where I only have to go to classes every other day (I guess that's what happens when registration starts in April and you register in the middle of August...oops), but hey...at least it's an excuse to get out of comfy cozy sweats for a few hours every day. Sigh...my brain is getting bigger just thinking about it.

where, oh where has my prince charming gone?

Here are some more of the pictures I took today. The bum situation (see last post) is improving, but still a bit on the red and swollen (and sore) side (not so much in a baboon-esque kind of way, though).

Anyways...it was really hot, especially in those long (and terribly fabulous) gloves, and after getting up after every pic to reset the self timer made it get hot freaky fast. But anyways, I hope you enjoyed seeing pics as much as I enjoyed making them (excluding the bum situation, of course).

tea, anyone?

I organized a little fairy tale photoshoot this morning. I got this fabulous dress at a thrift store, and even though it's a little big, I still think it's the perfect fairy tale gown. I organized a wee little tea party for me and my friends, I got three pictures eeked out, and then I sat on a bee. IT STUNG ME RIGHT ON THE BUM!!! I am not even kidding. As I sat down for the self-timed picture, I sat right on a bee and it got trapped under my dress. I must have given the neighbors quite a sight as I started yelling and pulling up the dress and hopping about.

I forgot how much getting stung hurts, as I haven't gotten stung since I was about, hmm, four. So now I'm sitting here with an ice pack on my bum praying it doesn't rain before the swelling goes down and I can finish up.

sunday slacking

Okay...since I have been slacking lately (and usually do on the weekends) in the outfit post department, I have come up with a new idea. I made some sets on Polyvore that translate some of my favorite reads into the language of fashion.

My first set...inspiration: Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.


Okay...I kind of cheated and used the musical as inspiration in addition to the book, but you get the idea. I mostly based the outfit off of my favorite character, Enjolras. His iconic red vest over a crisp white shirt were the first pieces of the outfit. One of the most stunning scenes in the book (to me) includes Enjolras and a pocket watch, hence the necklace (also, the gold is reminiscent of the gold buttons on Enjy's vest). Cosette's character was the inspiration for the lingerie (woot Marius!). Also, in the musical, Eponine usually wears a brown trench coat for a scene or two, so I tried to incorporate that into the military-esque peacoat.

I am currently reading this series (hilarious!), so that's where I got the idea for this set. The main character, Georgia, is a school girl, but instead of a more traditional plaid skirt, I chose this lovely ballerina-esque ditty for the outfit. I included (very school-girly) tights and socks to be worn over the tights, and instead of a rucky, a brilliantly colored satchel. Don't forget the beret! Add some makeup and, of course, Angus, and this girl is ready for some serious snogging!

Also...big birthday wishes to my one and only on his 20th...Even though you are old, Robert, I still love you (and will even as we get older and madder). Miss you.

poor (wo)man's dry cleanin'

This is what I wore to see The Ugly Truth (probably my new favorite movie) with my boyfriend tonight. I thought mixing the different shades of red would be interesting...and it was. I really like this patent leather purse...I just love the big purse with the loooong strap...different!

This is what I like to call poor man's dry cleaning. I am poor. I have no money to dry clean my clothes. My secondhand blazers were starting to make my closet smell like an old lady who smokes. So I took them outside for about five hours, hosing them down considerably with Febreze every so often.

We went out with my grandma to celebrate my dad's birthday (which was actually on the 2nd) and this is what I wore...

This beautiful shirt is thrifted. It's quite heavy (I call it my "chainmail") and says on the tag do not machine wash, do not dry clean. Hmm...that's a shirt for ya. I am wearing it over a simple red dress and with shoes that are waaaay too small...

it was a hot summer night...

It was a rather warm night so I had to find something cool and comfy to wear. This is what happened...

This cute little polka dot dress I thrifted from work. It has an incredible design so that it's simple (but not too simple...for lack of a better explanation) and still incredibly sexy.

This is the outfit I wore to go to the library today. It was hoooot! I love these shorts...they're so bad they're kind of good. Everything else in this outfit was thrifted except for the shirt (which is still second hand because it's my mom's...hehheh...don't tell).
