It is getting cooler and cooler outside...almost too cold to go without a jacket already! Good thing I had this beautiful cardigan (from the bag sale...with the original tags still on!) to keep me warm on this cool fall day!

The minute I saw theses shoes at H&M, I fell in love with them...first of all, they're the most gorgeous shade of pink, and second of all, their shape is just classic.

Usually I abhor outfits that are too matchy-matchy...but I didn't feel that way about pairing these light pink shoes with the cardigan...I guess there was enough going on elsewhere in the outfit to make it seem ok...plus, I swear, the colors are exactly the same! Not a swing and a miss, I promise.

blustery day

Today is a very blustery day (it's Windsday, Rabbit)...the first real day it feels like fall! It's one of those days where you want to stay inside and cuddle up all nice and warm and just watch the weather unfolding outside your window. You can see the effects of the wind in the way my hair is blowing and also in the last photo...


My outfit for this blustery day consists of a beautiful tartan skirt (vintage...from the bag sale!) - I don't know why, but tartans and plaids are one of my favorite prints to wear in the fall...all the rich colors and beautiful patterns just work well together, I think. I'm also wearing thick tights that are just perfect for the weather (I'm actually surprised at how warm they were!)

I don't know why...but I always imagine wearing my plaid skirts with boots. I tried to work the skirt with cute little flats, but I thought that result was too school girly...you know?

Hey everyone! You can all let out your breaths in relief because I am done with my two tests! I actually have one more tomorrow, but, you know, at least these two are finished!

This awesome beaded vest was scored in the bag sale of the other day. It is in perfect condition and includes the perfect fall colors - gold and red. I included my trusty vintage velvet hat and chain link necklace to spice things up.

My brother gave me this awesome bag for my birthday...I used it for class today since I didn't have to carry that many books. I really love Bruce Springsteen songs!

I am in my chair typing and my cat is sitting on the back of the chair looking out the window and whipping me in the face with her tail. Now that's love for you.

Ah, here we go...a proper outfit post! Even though it was a bit damp out today managed to get through the day completely dry! And...every single item in this outfit is thrifted (everything is from my birthday spree except the shoes and the tights)! I absolutely love the colors in this outfit, and I think they go perfectly with the colors of the outdoors.

I am definitely falling head over heels in love with tights. They instantly give any outfit a boost in character! With each skirt I wear I am becoming more and more unsatisfied with pants (and that is really saying something as I used to wear boring jeans every single day - check out the beginning posts of this blog...). I am dreading the day when the Wisconsin winter becomes too cold for a skirt...

So tomorrow I have two tests...erlack - one in each class. I think I'm going to go make some flash cards...

everything's better when wet

Well, I did have a wonderful outfit for you today (made up of my newly thrifted clothes), but...long story short, I ended up riding my brother's bike (very tall and awkward to ride in a pencil skirt!) three miles home in at torrential downpour. No, torrential downpour is not even the right term. I don't even know if there is one. Let's just say, it's the hardest it's rained in a very very long time. Of course it wasn't raining when I left...no, it was about three minutes after I set off for home. Soaked. To. The. Bone. Plus, my Marie Claire magazine I had just bought (that was in my purse) was completely ruined. I will say, however, that being caught in the rain is such an exhilarating feeling. I was drenched in my beautiful new clothes, riding an uncomfortable guy bike (with a wheel that I'm pretty sure is about to fall off or something), but all I could do was grin ear to ear and even laugh a little. 'Cause you know...once you're already wet, you might as well play...

So, anyways...I figured out what I saved yesterday on my thrifting extravaganza...I saved $135 dollars (from purchasing the clothes in the bag sale as opposed to buying them regularly) and each item cost me approximately $0.76. Can you believe that? I am soooo excited to incorporate the pieces into my fall wardrobe...hopefully there will be pictures taken before any more bike rides in the rain.

September 21st

Soo...it's official - I am now old. I am twenty years old today. Yes, old news, old Indy. I am a teenager no longer...it's kind of sad. So...this is my new twenty year old self...
(Oh, and I also want to send a hug and birthday wishes to Melsa who turned 19 on September 15th! Happy birthday girl...miss you loads.)

So this is what I wore today...I love the print on this shirt! I got the shirt at H&M a while ago on sale for $5! Yes I did. It was also kind of rainy this morning when I got dressed, so I opted for some sweet (thrifted) Italian-made boots.

So, for a special birthday treat to myself, I took some birthday money and went thrifting (an activity I've had go give up after being poor lately). Let me tell you...I found some of the most beautiful clothes ever!

First of all...the thrift store I went to was only three miles away from my university, but somehow I still managed to get lost...yeah, it took me forty-five minutes to get there. I actually had to stop and ask someone at a rummage sale and the lady was all, "why do you want to go there? All they have is junky stuff." And I was like, "uhhh...could you please just tell me how to get there?" She told me that it was downtown, which I already knew, so she didn't really help. But I found it.

Remember once when I told you about the "bag sale" (one grocery bag stuffed full of clothes for $10, no matter the sticker price)? Well, that's the same place I went this time. I also bought a $25 dollar bag which could have the "white ticket items" (fancier more expensive clothing...or ones with the original tags still on), so for $35, I got two bags full of beautiful vintage clothes (plus four pairs of shoes, seven belts, two purses, and eight hair barettes). I was pretty darn pleased with myself. I am in the midst of finding out the average price per item and the amount of savings, which I will dutifully report to you on the morrow (maybe with some pictures included!).

So...this is my first post as a twenty year old. Pretty epic, I know. It's so epic that I'm even changing my profile pic to go along with my new older more sophisticated and savvy self (maybe I'll realize my new sophistication and savvy-ness in the next couple of days?).

Today I had my Psych and Logic tests...then I had a lovely dinner in the park with my grandma. It is a beautiful fall day - not too hot and not too cold (said Little Bear). Then I arrived home to find our driveway had been sealed and was nearly knocked out by the fumes. Then I got flowers delivered to me from my boyfriend (no, he didn't deliver them...he just sent them...sad, I know).

This is what I wore...my favorite part of the outfit are my earrings. They reminded me of the scales of justice, so I thought that would suit this day (of Philosophy Logic tests) well. I also really like the drape-y-ness of this shirt. It makes me feel so Greek...oh those Greeks so knew how to drape them selves with lots and lots and lots of beautiful cloth...

I have a test in my Logic class tomorrow. Hence the title. So, do you know what the truth value of "r and not-r?"

A-ha! Another brooch...I told you I was having a thing with them lately. I am also in love with mixing prints, like the stripes with the animal print...it's so...oh, what's the word...amazing? And another thing...pairing colors with other colors from the same family (like pink and red)...oh so dangerous.

Yeah...here's a story for you...I made crepes today. I was working on mastering the art of flipping them, and I was sooo good. But then, as I was showing my dad my complete skill, I flipped one out of the pan and onto the burner. It then burst into flames. True story. Nothing was hurt. Except maybe my dignity. Nothing a pair of candy apple red peep toes couldn't fix, though.

I love the color of these tights! It's a beautiful shade for fall, and great to spice up any outfit!

I am falling in love with brooches (I mean, I've always loved them, but not this much)...they are so individual and fun! This big blue flower makes my whole outfit much more playful.

I have also wanted cowboy(girl) boots since I was little and would always stick my little legs into my dad's awesome black boots. I really want to go ride a horse whenever I wear them...

I totally love my short hair, but lately I have been really wishing I had long mermaid-ish tresses. How long to wait now? Oh, so long. Ooo...it would bounce along behind me whilst horse back riding in my lovely cowboy boots...

well done, sister suffragette

Sooo...on this gorgeous gorgeous day (after this, I am going to ride my pink little bike to work - hoorah for being green!) this is the outfit I picked out for class. I started out having a red and white polka-dotted belt cinched at the waist. Then, after consulting my mirror for a few minutes, I swapped the polka-dotted belt for a brown one. Then, I arrived at the conclusion that today, a belt around the waist was just too ordinary for me. Finally, I decided on draping the belt across me, suffragette style.

Okay, I know that showing bra straps is considered trashy...but lately I have been liking this look (on some people). Is that bad? I have seen it on other blogs, and today I decided to try it (no more trying to tie them together in the back as to conceal them in a lumpy bump).

Today I opted for a clutch again...I like having my shoulders free from purse straps for the time being.

I don't know why it is, but I have been fascinated with masks since I was little. Something about the person in the mask is so mysterious and captivating that I can't help but be drawn to them.

So, to spruce up this outfit for the pictures, I added this pretty sparkly number that I think I got at a dollar store. This kind of simple outfit is what I wore to work today at Hallmark. This beautiful sweater was hidden in my closet and I'm so glad I found it! It is so soft and comfortable, plus it looked great with these plaid trousers.

Lately I have been drawn to clutches for day use as opposed to night use, which I think they're mostly saved for. Even though they are practically useless (as they hold...hmmm, nothing and are a hassle to carry all over the place), they never fail to add a little something more to any outfit.

Does anyone know how to fasten a pin or brooch so it won't make holes in your clothes? Or so it won't flop all over the place? I love pretty pins and brooches and I think they are a wonderful alternative to necklaces in certain outfits, however, I don't want them to look silly (if they're flopped over) and I don't want to ruin my top with pin holes. We must ponder this.

daughter long legs

I made this skirt extra high waisted today...needless to say that made it shorter, too, but that's what I wanted. The short skirt with the pointed-toe shoes make my legs look nice and looooong!

This first look is with my awesome Sigerson Morrison (for Target) flats (which I wore for school), and the second look is with my fabulous yellow (pizza toe...that's what I call pointy-toed shoes) heels.

The thing I'm realizing with fashion is...the look you start off with will never be the look you end up with. For example, the scarf I'm wearing started out as a sash around my waist. I'm learning that you have to play around a little bit your outfit before it's perfect...the idea you have in your head might be great...but once you actually have the clothes on, you never know what you'll end up with!

My S.R.E. professor is from Egypt. Do you know how nice an Egyptian accent sounds? Very nice.

Anyway...today I wore some very short shorts (with tights underneath...I've seen many people do this in a really nasty way...but in some ways I think it works...) and an amazing linen jacket I got from the Goodwill in Michigan. I looove these brown boots (Charlotte Russe...lovely), and I'm especially intrigued with wearing brown with black. The look is so chic and grown-up (for lack of a better term) when done correctly. To top off, I am wearing my vintage Italian hat.

Tomorrow is my first day working at Hallmark! Yay! I love stores that smell delicious.

Happy 9/09/09! In honor of the day...I basically did what I did I always do on Wednesday...go to class...come home...fool around...crazy bouts of disco inferno dancing...

I really like the radio stations playing all the Beatles music (not like I don't have the songs...it's just different when they're on the radio...you dig?) They had people call and vote for the favorite Beatles songs which got me thinking about my favorite Beatles songs...it's soooo hard to pick, as they are all fantastic...but just to give you an idea...here are my top 10...

Ahhh, Werewolves of London (by Warren Zevon), a quality song. Whenever I think scary stories, vampires, Halloween, or any of that good stuff, I always think of this song. I've loved it since I was like, five, and heard it playing on the radio in the car. It makes me want to dress up in black and put on amazingly dark eye makeup and red lipstick...haunt the streets, if ya know what I mean.

Anyways...that has nothing really to do with this outfit that I wore today. So sorry...were you expecting a vampiress? Yeah, more like...a hippie? A hippie clinging on helplessly to the last amazing days of summer.



This groovy vest was handed down to me from my godmother. She says that it's the first thing she ever bought with her first paycheck (in the '70's...obviously). It came with a matching skirt which would be quite scary if worn with the vest...too much leather and fringe is never a good thing (unless, of course, you are Pocahontas).



Now, speaking of vampires...I have been craving a good Gerard Butler movie (I call them "Gerry movies") lately. I think I could do with some Dracula 2000...an amazing trench coat, some bright white teeth, and that voice...ooo, that voice...now where did I put that DVD?

I went bowling with my friend, Ryan in this outfit. It was a time and half...we both really suck at bowling, let me tell you. We had fun, though. We played four games and for the last one the rule was that you could bowl any way you wanted to except the normal way. Ha ha...that was funny. I invented the Michael Jackson bowl...it involved a jump spin thing that didn't exactly work (I almost got the ball in the lane next to mine...woops. Needless to say, the Michael Jackson was retired after that.).

On my way to deliver my schedule to another employer, I locked my keys in my car. Brilliant! Not only do I have to borrow a phone, I have to wait for my parents to rescue me. Cool.
