there are simply too many notes...

I was tagged by the lovely Imogen to photo seven blue things in my room...so here they are!

  1. blue frame - this frames a sketch my friend Jon drew of me sophomore year at high school
  2. necklace Grandmother Willow gave to me in 1607
  3. The Daring Book for Girls...page 145 - How to Read the Tide Charts
  4. a tiny teacup for when I have tea parties
  5. my blue bow-tie from when I was in band...the blue bow-ties marked the Wind Symphony players (the best in high school) apart from the others who only had black ones...
(for example...the year after this pic was taken my brother auditioned and made it into Wind Symphony. It was great...the trumpets sat right in front of the percussion so I could hit him on the head with my sticks any time he played out of tune...just kidding, of course.)

6. my Wedgewood box that was a gift from my grandma...it holds one of my baby teeth and a pendant with a baby picture of my childhood best friend.
7. a vintage hat made with blue feathers...glorious!

I will tag Michelle to find seven yellow things in her room...

This is what I wore to uni today...it's starting to get really cold...not as cold as it usually is this time of year, but cold enough so I'm not sure how much longer outside pictures can continue! Alas.

I decided to rock my Converse boots today...and also, debut my amazing vintage jacket. Yes, the shoulders could almost make me a football player, but it is awesome all the same. I got it at a thrift store for $6.99, I think...yeah. I almost passed it up but then my mom talked me into going back (thanks Mom!).

If any of you are music fans and have not seen Amadeus, do it now. Here is a trailer for the more recent director's cut...glad it has the infamous laugh included...

This won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup...the costumes are amazing. Look at those wigs!

proud to be a p.y.t.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my blogging friends...even those who do not celebrate this holiday. I am thankful for so many things that it would be impossible to list them all.

Something has come to my attention, especially during this Thanksgiving season. I have become aware, having been on the blogging scene for more than a year now, that so many of us are quick to put ourselves down and aren't usually thankful for our wonderful qualities. Most of us are quick to comment on everyone elses outfits, art, ect., but fail to see the great things we put into our own.

So, I have created the I love me!!! award. It's like most other awards...you need to pass it on to fellow bloggers you feel deserve it, link to them, let them know they have been tagged, ect., you know. The point of the award is this, though: you need to list ten things you love about yourself. It will be probably be hard, but we need to take some time and realize the good things about ourselves. Like it's been said, it's hard for one to properly love others when they fail to love themselves. And, as it has also been said...love is all you need.

So...ten things I love about ME! Here they are...
  1. I love my ability to read music
  2. I love my smile, especially when it's crooked
  3. I love my (usually) sunny disposition
  4. I love that I am stubborn
  5. I love my creative flair
  6. I love that I am not afraid to have fun
  7. I love my curly hair
  8. I love that I am super smart and that I am not afraid to let people know it
  9. I love that my ears are not pierced
  10. I love that I am a total bookworm

There you have it...some things I love about myself. I can't wait to see what Sher, Weesha, hippiegirl, and Patty Ann list about themselves. I am tagging four people, but I urge you to tag however many you feel like. I hope you like my idea for this award and that it reminds you that you are a completely unique and wonderful person. Seriously.

for my heart is down in the chicken house...

Hey hey! My boyfriend has been in town the past couple of days which has why I've been absent from the posting scene...however, here is my outfit that I wore today (or yesterday, I guess since it's after midnight)...

Today we went looking 'round some shops downtown and encountered a larger than life tree...holy buckets. Anyways...hooray for Minnie Mouse...such a classy lady, especially in all purple. This is the first appearance of black leggings on my blog ever! How epic...how'd it turn out? Lately I've been looking to dancing silhouettes and/or dance wear for my outfit inspiration...so I thought the legwarmers with the leggings would be appropriate. Also, I own a pair of official dance heels (from my Chorus Line days), but they don't do it for me in real life, which is why I purchased these lovelies...a small heel and strap like my dancing heels, only slightly more chic. Oh, and can't forget this awesome vintage (handed down to me from my boyfriend's mom) jacket.

My lovely bf stepped out from behind the camera for a short while so I could snap his picture in front of the mega tree...

So now, tomorrow (I mean...today, gah why am I still up!?) my bf will be off to Michigan to spend Thanksgiving with his grandma...then he'll away once more to NY for the final weeks of the semester...I miss you Bobs.

p.s. props to anyone who knows the song that goes with this title...that goes for most of my titles, too!

until there is only...the dance

First, Thank you to Sher from Beneath the Crystal Stars for this lovely award!

I will tag Elena-Lu and Patty Ann

This is what I wore to work yesterday after changing out of the black velvet dress...obviously I was inspired by dancers of the '70's and '80's with these mmmm cozy legwarmers...they actually do keep your legs warm.

I really wish I had joined the dance team in high school. I love dance and love dancing, but I didn't like the people who were traditionally on the dance teams. I really regret not trying out because now I look into dance classes and they're so expensive! Moreover, I shouldn't have let those other girls determine what I wanted to do for myself.

I have always had an intense love for music and have always needed to move to it. In band, I started out playing the clarinet but then switched to percussion (which is what I wanted to do in the first place), and I'm so glad I made that decision. I needed to be closer to the beat...the heart of the music.

"Rhythm is something you either have or you don't have
but when you have it you have it all over"
--
Elvis

I know I just posted this quote before, but I just feel like it is perfect for me. I don't care what kind of music it is, if it has a good beat I like it and just want to move to it...having it "all over" as Elvis would say.

Dance is inspiring and exhilarating. You can express yourself through the movement and just let it get into you. It's taken me a long time to realize how much dancing is an integral part of who I am...

"Dancers come and go in a twinkling of an eye, but the dance lives on. On many an occasion when I am dancing, I have felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known. I keep on dancing then it is the eternal dance of creation. The creator and the creation merge into one wholeness of joy. I keep on dancing... and dancing... and dancing, until there is only... The Dance."

don't stop 'til you get enough

This is what I wore to uni today, and of course, after donning a black velvet dress it turned out to be warm out when I was finished with class. Of course. Oh well...

This dress I got from a thrift store and it is soooo vintage chic...you can't really see from the pictures, but there are two rows of buttons going down the front. I love it...I feel so gothic. Oh, also, of course you pretty much can't see it, but there's that black bow in my hair, too. I'm so glad that my hair's getting long enough to have a bit of variety...

I got thrifted these amazing vintage heels, also, for less than a dollar. They go great with the vintage gothic look of the dress.

So...a frenzied bout of room-cleaning and then I'm off to work. This weekend is going to take forever...I can just tell...I know it's weird, but I can't wait for next week! It's almost Thanksgiving break...

so beat it, but you want to be bad

Oh goodness...I'm surprised I can even hold my eyelids up at this point...I'm exhausted. Sadly it was raining today so I couldn't take pictures outside, so we'll just have to make do with these in crappy lighting.

I got this dress for a song ($5) and I love that it's a sweater dress but also has short sleeves. That makes it nice for places like work and school who overcompensate for the cold outside by making it hottttttt inside!

'cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider

I don't think I've ever posted a photo of me with my hair pulled back ever on this blog! How exciting that it is actually long enough to kind of do (with the help of many bobby pins)! Anyways...this is what I wore today, kind of straightforward...loving the dark florals for fall!

I think that tights are one of the best purchases you can ever make...instantly transform an outfit for only a few dollars. Plus, if you neglect shaving like I do (you do it too sometimes...don't lie!), it's a good way to keep it a secret (shhh!).

So. I've been listening to a lot of music lately, like I always do, I guess. And, you know those people that you are kind of hesitant to look into their eyes because it's like they can see right down into your soul? You know...like see all your thoughts and feelings and all that stuff in your soul? Anyways, I feel like that when I listen to Bruce Springsteen...always. Not in that I'm uncomfortable, but like he's read my soul and is turning it into music. I like it...it's raw and powerful and I make a huge connection with it.

Just thought I'd throw that in there...you know. It's exciting when you connect with something. It makes you realize that you're not alone...

but when you have it you have it all over

you knock me off of my feet

Yesterday my mom and I went to go see This Is It and, let me tell you it was fantastic! I recommend that everyone see it, even if you're not a Michael Jackson fan. I felt like jumping out of my seat to dance and belt it out every minute I was in there. I cannot even express how much I liked this film...it was such a treat so see a behind the scenes look at the rehearsals and auditions and everything it takes to put a show together.

Another thing I loved...Michael's style. Some of the pieces he wore during his rehearsals: gold sequin pants, a Balmain-esque shoulder-padded blazer, a silver blazer, bright red trousers, a purple military jacket...and he wore them all so effortlessly (and could dance in them). It was very inspiring...to just see how those pieces could be worn just like anything and no one thought anything of it because it was him. I challenge all of you to take this point of view when it comes to fashion...bust out those sequin leggings (or anything else equally wild) for no special occasion at all...just because you like them and feel great in them!

Today I got dressed in a hurry so I could register right away for my spring classes. Then I discovered that the earliest time that I could register was 11:oo, soooooo...I did finally get all the classes I want put on my schedule for next spring!

I love the look of this vintage jacket...it's so sharp. I paired it with black skinnies and good old Converse.

Well...yesterday I went to Borders and used my gift card to get a couple cook books. Tonight I attempted to make split pea soup and it turned out to be the worst soup I've ever tasted in my life. Yeah, it was gross. Oh well.

Now get up and dance you!

screaming out the words I dread

I am so in love with the weather lately! Every day it has been freezing in the morning but then turns out absolutely gorgeous by mid morning. Kind of what happened this morning (see the huge sweater)...all through my Psych and Logic classes I kept looking longingly out the window positively craving the outdoors. Seriously, I could not keep still and probably annoyed the guy sitting next to me to death.

As you can see, I kinda went for the comfy casual look, which ended up backfiring on me 'cause I was sweating to save my life five minutes into class. That's what I get for living in Wisconsin, I guess.

And, I just wanted to say that I read and adore every single one of your lovely comments. Seriously, you people are so nice and you never fail to brighten my days!

feelin' hunky dory 'bout this thing that I've found

Hey hey hey! There was frost on the ground this morning when I got up! And then I had a brilliant idea and went outside to move my car into the sun so I wouldn't have to scrape it right before I left. Yeah, kinda backfired in that I had to scrape it anyways to see where to move it. Word. And the neighbors saw me in my jammies...I hoped they liked it.

Busted out my gorgeous pink bicycle for another ride around the town before she'll have to hibernate for the winter...after classes it wasn't that cold out anymore.

I was in a really super mood after I got home (um, probably mostly relieved that my Logic test was over, but then again I'm a happy person - unless I'm being a Velociraptor, according to my boyfriend). And, woops, my dress flew up a bit high, but that's okay...could be higher.

So, let's see...plans for tonight: go to work from 2-9, come home, collapse into bed. Lather rinse repeat.

feelin' near as faded as my jeans

I swear, it seems that every time I do a post I am about to take a Logic test...and yep, tomorrow morning I am hopping bright eyed and bushy tailed out of my nice and warm bed to twist my melon into symbolizing all sorts of fun stuff.

Whipped out the jeans today, but it's okay because I haven't worn pants in a super duper long time! Hooray for me and my lovely self discipline! Today I whipped out one of my awesome sweaters...kitty kitties! For sure.

Well...must get back to studying. I love you all. (Let's see...there's exists some person (x) such that (x) loves all...oh nevermind, we'll save that for the test.)

try to love one another right now

We're in the middle of a beautiful Indian Summer and it is gorgeous out! I hopped onto my little pink bicycle and cycled around the town. It was wonderful.

I've had this black bow since I was super little and it was the perfect item to add to this outfit...I already had lace, pearls, black-lined eyes, and velvet (the shoes). What more could you ask for but a bit of sheer fabric. Yes it was only in my hair, but still, a perfect combination if you ask me.

I saw this shirt when I went to the store for something else. I left without it but could not stop thinking about its unique and beautiful design. So I went back for it. Hey, it was only $7, I couldn't resist. Speaking of the wonderfully cheap and amazing, these shoes (which I got for FREE from Fashion Bug...a long time ago with a certificate from my grandma) are dark red, velvet, and have bows on the toes. In one word...yum.

joyeux anniversaire

Hey, guess what? Today is the one year anniversary of my blog! Wow...it seems like not that long ago, but if you go back and look at my outfits from back then you'll see that...actually yes, it was quite a long while ago and we should never ever go back and look at those posts ever again. Seriously. Ever.

So this is what I wore to school today (weird aside...I've been having really strange dreams about my Logic class...what the heck?!)

Oh, and I also got an award from Le temple de la deesse NiLuNoah...

Here are the rules...

  5. I cannot resist a man in uniform
  6. I like to run in the rain (actually, I like everything in the rain)

  7. Weesha from Weesha's World

So, I did a whole webcam video for you guys for something new on my blogging anniversary, but somehow it ended up being like 900 MB's and it took like six hours to not even upload all the way, soooooo. Yeah, hopefully I can figure out a way to condense it or edit it down a bit.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend...I will be working the Holiday Open House all weekend at Hallmark...woot!

it's all right...he's from Barcelona

Here's what I wore on this chilly day to classes, my grandma's, and work. This is a vintage Levi's denim shirt handed down to me from my dear dad...it's nice and big and good for a chilly fall day!

I am in love with these wedges that I got for my 17th birthday - I love the mix of the black with brown and the shape. I always feel like Polly from Fawlty Towers when I wear them. Oh, now I'm itching to watch that show again. Basil!

I'm also wearing my nice green velvet hat...perfect for curing a strange and silly case of Bed Head!

before I run in the rain

Sooo...hello! Here is one last lonely picture from when the leaves were bright on the trees and on the ground...oh so beautiful. And just look at that trench coat go!

Here is what I wore to work yesterday...this is totally my mom's old dress! Yes the fit is bad and the cut is way old, but hey, I'm workin' it! I got this fabulous black bag at Target (on sale for $3.75 marked down from $20) and it is amazingly big and slouchy (it is very good for taking your own treats into the movie theatre to avoid paying $10 for a bag of M&M's). And...hello again gorgeous pink shoes.

I totally had a dream last weekend and at one point in it I was running in the rain. I don't know where I was running to, but it sure was fun...
