and I won't work for nobody but you

This is what I wore to work today. I almost forgot that I had these sweet thrifted Allen Edmond shoes, but then I rediscovered them and thought they would work with this outfit.

I'm excited for tomorrow - after a short shift at work I'm going to the store and loading up on glitter and heart confetti to make my Valentine cards with! Valentine's day is my favorite holiday - a whole day dedicated to L-O-V-E, love.

damned if I'll yield at the end of the chase

Well, here we go, probably the last installment in my Les Mis character inspired outfits! Believe it or not, this is my Javert inspired outfit. I took the semi-militaryesque jacket and paired it with something fierce - leopard print jeans. I pinned my hair up except let it flow wild at the sides (ahem huge sideburns). And I donned my trusty Chucks...perfect for hunting down and capturing the elusive 24601!

Ahh, it was so cold! Look, you can see my breath!

Today is the first day I've had completely off in almost three weeks! It's been nice and relaxing! I ran to the post office to buy stamps (highway robbery, if you ask me...$8.80 for only 20 stamps), and then popped into my local library. I checked out Moonwalk, Michael Jackson's autobiography, and have delved into it already (putting on hold the magnificent Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel). I also scoured the CD section and came out with 25 CD's to add to my music library. I've only just finished putting them on my laptop now. I've got some great ones, including:
  • Tango Around the World
  • Trinidad Carnival - Steel Bands
  • Pure Disco
  • Billy Joel - An Innocent Man
  • Oh Boy - Buddy Holly
  • Sounds of the Tropical Rainforest
  • Scary Sounds for Halloween
  • Musette from Paris
And, let's not forget the four volumes of Fun with Sound Effects. Haha, yeah. But seriously, how could you live without slamming doors, helicopters, or people clapping 10 millions different ways? It's a must for any sound effect lover. The Scary Sounds CD's (three in all) are also totally rad. I love the organs with the mysterious wailing and thunder in the background!

the city goes to bed and I can live inside my head

I had one of those days where I really didn't do anything that productive before work...and then after work realized how much I wanted to do before bed. Sigh. Anyhoo, this is my Eponine inspired outfit. I like it - simple, a little drab, and done in a snap!

This sweater vest was also $.76 in the bag sale...I'm in love...it's so cozy and it's the perfect size!

One of my favorite things about blogging is meeting new people who have similar interests. I can't say enough how much I enjoy reading comments from everyone and also leaving comments on your wonderful blogs. Everyone is so kind; thank you. It's nice to know there are people in the world that take a little time out of their day to make you smile. I am smiling.

a heart full of love...no fears no regrets

Today my plan was to do an Eponine inspired outfit, but when I finally got dressed I decided that this was much more a Cosette inspired outfit, don't you think? I think Eponine's outfit would have to be darker.

Anyways, I got this amazing blazer/trench (what is it? which one? ahh, it's both!) in the bag sale for only $.76.

I think I like the jacket better open for this outfit, but I thought I'd post a photo of what it looks like buttoned, too. I definitely need a brooch on it. Hmmm...

And, the best part about any trench-like coat (well, in my humble opinion) is the way it moves. Here are a few photos that showcase the...the...what do you call it? The way the jacket flows out behind me in a totally cool and chic way. There.

In other news, one of my good friends recently got engaged! And they're getting married in June! So excited.

the color of the world is changing day by day

I am taking an idea that I saw on Annie's blog and using it myself. She has inspired me to be inspired. For the next couple of days, my outfits will be inspired by characters from my favorite musical (and book, for that matter), Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo.

Enjolras, my favorite character in perhaps all literature, was the inspiration for this outfit. It can never measure up to the iconic red and gold vest from the musical, (I reallllllly want one of those...someone should make one) and puffy shirt, but, hey. (By the way, Michael Maguire = best Enjolras. Ever.)

Okay, here's my Enjy pose...fist in air, fighting for the right to a night at the opera now, singing lungs out, ect.

Have a lovely rest of the day!

spark my nature sugar fly with me

This is what I wore today...I decided to combat the tight skirt with the drapey top. I also tried to do something different with my hair...so I tried to pile it a bit on the top to give it more height. It kind of worked, but next time I think I'll need more time and more bobby pins.

I popped into my local antique store today to gaze longingly at a beautiful black velvet cape I've been dreaming about. And I emerged with two vintage umbrellas (one $10 and one $6). I am sooooooooooooooo excited for spring to come with it's April showers so I can use them! Now, I know you probably want to hear more about the velvet cape...but I'm getting paid on Friday...so we'll see!

just stop doggin' me around

Today I cleaned my room and found $35 just chilling under a pile of papers on my desk. Maybe I should clean more often...

I bought this dress three years ago for one of our school dances and I have been hesitant to wear it since then. But today I decided to dash all my fears and do it. And this is what happened...

it's not in your face, it's in my hand

Well, look what happened, chums, the sun came out to play. And what an absolutely gorgeous day it was! It was so nice I decided to use my pretty ochre bag.

I scored a bunch of really wildly printed Missoni sweaters at a thrift store a while ago and was feeling the casual look today, so I went for it.

Also, a long while ago, Michelle from Glisters and Blisters gave me this award...thanks dear! I will now tag Annie of Time Enough For Drums (which is also the name of one of my favorite books of all time...maybe my favorite...it's hard to say, though...please check it out)!

Everything's slowly getting back to normal now...my brother's back in school, my boyfriend's back in NY, I'm back working every day, and I need to clean my room.

Please everyone get out and dance. Life is beautiful...so are you.
Pip pip for now.

keep yourself alive

Today my bro and I went to the mall for some shoe shopping (for him). I did happen to come out with a beautiful sequined dress from H&M that was on sale for $20 (I have no idea how that happened...honestly). Then we went to see Sherlock Holmes. I am in love with Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock...he's so feisty and intelligent that you can't help but be drawn to him.

This is what I wore the other day, nothing special, but I thought it was time for another post. It has been gray and dreary out the past couple of days so any pictures taken have turned out like absolute poo on account of my nasty camera.

Well, tomorrow I'm off for work at both jobs, one right after the other, but maybe I'll be able to squeeze in a few photos if the sun comes out to play.

play to win...but also...win to play

Had the most amazing day with my boyfriend today! I'm so sad he's going to be leaving on Tuesday! Super sad face. Today we went to Chili's for lunch (I've been absolutely craving a chicken ranch sandwich) after taking photos in a small town by the lake. Then we went to Steinhafel's Furniture Superstore and sat on all the nice couches (with no intention of buying any...this is when it's best to do this...under no pressure!), which is a favorite thing of ours to do. We then headed back to his house and watched Paranormal Activity, which creeped the bejeebers out of me! Finally we came back to my place and watched a few episodes of The Office.

So, I now debut one of the most amazing antique store finds in the history of my life: a vintage red sequined jacket. Oh, so beautiful, and only $24. I found it the other night when my boyfriend and I popped into a store to browse. (Haha...I say that as if I could ever just "browse.") I fell in love and came home with this treasure (and am considering going back for an extremely cool vintage straw hat...maybe). What do you think?

I decided that a jacket this rad had to be paired with a simple top and bottoms. Then I added pointy-toed flats, an oversized clutch, and shades...ready for anything.

I am currently reading The Handmaid's Tale and am totally engrossed in it. For anyone who hasn't read it, I strongly recommend it (and for those who have read it...read it again!) - it's like nothing I've ever read before...in a good way.

won't you wear my ring a-around your neck?

The only good thing about today: it's Elvis' 75th birthday! Elvis Presley is my favorite singer of alllllll time (actually...he's tied with Michael Jackson, but in honor of his birthday we'll just say it this way), and I still get chills when I hear some of his songs, especially Devil in Disguise.

In other news, here is my outfit for today: tutu take two. I couldn't get over my dislike for my last outfit, so I decided to make it better. I would have worn it out to a movie and lunch, but it turns out that that was never to be.

Have a fabulous day, I love you all.

bending over backwards just to try and see it clearer

Today we went ice skating as planned and it was sooooooooo much fun! Well, first off we got there and there's a sign WE ONLY ACCEPT CASH AND CHECKS so we're like, ummm...cause we didn't have that much cash on us. But the guy was nice and gave us a huge discount just so we could go and be a cute couple. And it was awesome, we had the whole rink to ourselves. It was soooo Rocky it's not even funny.

This is what I wore today. I don't really like the outfit at all, but I thought I'd show you the neat pics anyways. I wish I'd worn a different top or something...there's too much black. And my hair is all frozen and awful...but it's ok. This is how we learn and grow as fashionistas. My tulle skirt was tooootally appropriate for the skating though...it rocked.

Tomorrow we're supposed to get up to nine inches of snow...I'm so excited!

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

they were soaring ever higher...

This is my lovely friend Melsa's first year at Bristol University. I recently received a package from her containing this amazing shirt and couldn't wait to wear it! I like that the shirt and this vintage sweater make this outfit seem more casual.

Tomorrow my bf and I may go ice skating...I have a little tutu-ish skirt that would look oh so fabulous...

I love your funny face

So my bf and I rented Funny Face last night and we were totally going to get Roman Holiday, too, but the dumb video rental store didn't have it. Weak sauce. But, I looooved Funny Face. It's hard not to love anything Audrey Hepburn is in because she brings such charm and beauty to all her films.

This is what I wore to work at the bookstore today (no one came in for any impromptu magazine photoshoots, though)...

And I must tell you that I really am a bit sensible and do wear coats outside when I go places, I just like the lighting outside better than in my house, and the better pictures are totally worth the chilly moments it takes to take them without a coat on. So thank you to everyone who worried about me and probably thought I was a bit off my cooker...

I'm wearing the violet lipstick again...it's such a lovely and unusual shade and a nice alternative to the usual red. Also, all my hats are beginning to feel a bit small now that my hair is longer...

And I'd like to wish a happy 21st anniversary to my parents (their anniversary was actually yesterday, but, you know), and a happy happy 3 year 11 month anniversary to me and my boyfriend!

"Have you heard...the word is love..."

Sunday, January 3, 2010

are you lonely just like me?

No, these are not the thigh high boots that I really wish for, they are my almost-as-cool-knee-high-boots worn over thigh high socks. I am really in love with these socks - they're from Target and they are soooo warm and they look really sexy! Perfect for date nights in the (below zero) Wisconsin winter.

This blouse is a vintage Liz Claiborne (thrifted) and the skirt I got on sale ($5) from my favorite store, H&M. This necklace belonged to my Grandma (she gave it to me for Christmas this year), and it is one of my favorite gifts ever! It has the design of a 1928 British shilling complete with abbreviated Latin phrases and mustached king.

Tonight I'm being taken out on a date by my boyfriend (who is feeling better - thank you to everyone for their well wishes!). We're having dinner out and then renting some Audrey Hepburn movies to watch at his house (I just found out that he is a big Audrey fan). I'm thinking Funny Face and Roman Holiday?

just wanna be startin' something

Drum roll please...thank you. These are the first pics taken with my superduperduper doubly cool (with knobs) tripod! I am so in looooove it's not even funny. And, I was so excited to use it I scrambled out in the frosty frigidness to take pics. (Can you tell...my cheeks and nose are quite pink in the photos.)

I am wearing just simple black - a thrifted cardigan and leggings. Then I added a scarf and a beautiful and soft beret-type hat (if anyone knows the proper name for these off the back of the head ragamuffin type hats, please do tell) I bought on sale for $2 the other day. Oh, and also not to be forgotten...I am wearing my new Revlon Va Va Violet lipstick. I really like it. It's rather dark, but it needs to be applied that way so the gorgeous shade really comes out.

And, in honor of the new year, a jumpy type pic.

Now I'm off to tend to my sick boyfriend (who better not have gotten me sick I tell you or else please please please no) with some scrummy cod sandwiches and some deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds!
